1/2 cup sugar
Frosting/Icing:
1 cup powdered sugar
1-2 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
Method:
- In a small pot warm milk to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, add 1/4 tsp sugar and yeast. Set aside off the heat to activate for 10 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl add flour, 1/4 cup sugar, nutmeg & salt.
- Add egg, melted butter and cooled milk & yeast mixture.
- Knead dough for a few minutes till smooth and leave in a covered bowl to rest for 1 hour till doubled in size.
- In a separate bowl, mix together butter, sugar and cinnamon for the filling.
- Once risen, punch dough down and roll out into a large rectangle approximately 13'x9'.
- Spread filling evenly all over rolled out dough.
- Roll dough beginning with the long side into a long log shape and cut into 1 to 1+1/2 inch pieces.
- Rest in a greased baking dish with little space in between and leave covered to rise for another 30 mins while oven is preheating to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until just golden brown.
- While cinnamon rolls are cooling slightly you can mix together the frosting ingredients (you can use less or more milk depending on the consistency of frosting you prefer)
- When rolls are slightly cooled, frost generously and enjoy while still a bit warm for best taste!
